Alberta Stock Exchange Conquest takes jump

Trading this week on the Alberta exchange slid below last week’s level, with 5,096,200 shares traded in the latest period.

One of the hottest stocks on the Alberta board was Conquest Yellowknife Resources, which traded 105,900 shares, and climbed 29 to close at $1.94. The company has a 100% interest in over 260 mining claims in the Missanabie area of northwestern Ontario, northeast of Wawa, and not far from the producing mine of Renabie Gold Mines.

Sweany Gold was again a big mover, trading more than 425,000 shares at from 17 cents to 21 cents . Also active in Ontario, the company has a number of claims groups north of the province’s Beardmore area.

Northgane Minerals was most active, with 674,500 shares changing hands in the week’s period, and closing at 54 cents for a loss of 5 cents . The company, which expected to raise $1 million from a recent financing, has a major interest in a B.C. gold property, and is looking to start development of a gold deposit in Ecuador, in the second half of this year.

Claude Resources, which caused a flurry of trading in the previous week (over 600,000 shares) tailed off to light trading in the week of 28,500 shares, and lost 24 cents to close at $3.20. Claude is in a venture with Placer Development on a possible gold-producing property in the La Ronge area of northern Saskatchewan.

Recently-listed Goldcap Inc. closed at 33 cents on the week in light trading. Goldcap is exploring a group of mining claims northwest of Prince George, B.C., with Noranda Inc. as operator.
