Alaskan venture plans exploration

A joint venture formed by several parties will spend US$4 million during the next two years on exploration for gold, silver, lead, and zinc near Fairbanks, Alaska.

Involved in the venture are Sumitomo Metal Mining Arizona, consulting geological and engineering firm Watts, Griffis and McOuat, Noranda Minerals, a unit of Noranda (TSE), Hemlo Gold Mines (TSE) and Irish company Conroy Petroleum and Natural Resources.

The project, to be known as the Stone Boy Venture, will cover 15,700 sq. km.
