Alaskan conference highlights Klondike

The centenary of the discovery of the Klondike gold fields in the Yukon will be celebrated during the 15th Biennial Conference on Alaskan Mining in Fairbanks.

The conference, entitled “Mining in the North Country — the First 100 Years,” will run March 5-9 and include short courses and technical sessions.

Courses will focus on the interpretation of airborne geophysical maps, the application of remote sensing, and geographical information systems.

Technical sessions will cover regional exploration, placer mining, and environmental regulations applicable to mining. A trade fair is also scheduled.

The conference will suitably be held in the Fairbanks region, which has produced 8.3 million oz. gold from lode and placer deposits, some of which are still in operation.
