Aker Solutions to take on Palmarejo mine

Norwegian engineering and construction company Aker Solutions has been contracted to perform construction management at Coeur d’Alene Mines’ (CDM-T, CDE-N) Palmarejo project.

The silver-gold project, located in the Sierra Madre mountains of Chihuahua state, Mexico, is forecast to process 2 million tonnes of ore per year. As part of the contract, Aker will provide construction management services for the infrastructure and process plant areas of the gold and silver processing facility. This includes construction of cyanide leaching and electrowinning facilities, access roadways, a sewage treatment plant, waste disposal facilities, fresh water storage and distribution system, campsite, administration offices, first aid facility, laboratory, warehouse, truck shop and main substation.

The plant processing facilities will include a crushing and grinding circuit, conventional flotation of silver sulphide and gold concentrate, thickening and cyanide leaching of flotation concentrate and tailings, precious metals recovery plant and thickening/ electrowinning with cyanide destruction and disposal of tailings in a conventional tailings dam.

The Palmarejo project is expected to begin production early next year.
