Airborne surveys in northern Ontario

The Shining Tree, Batchawana, North Swazye/Montcalm Twp., Sturgeon-Savant Lakes and Rainy River areas were selected for the surveys because of their potential to host metallic mineral deposits.

Mines Minister Hugh O’Neil said airborne geophysical methods have been widely used since the early 1960s in mineral exploration, and Ontario-based contracting companies are recognized as world leaders in this field.

Maps that show the magnetic and electromagnetic properties of the areas will be released in 1990.

“The ministry’s airborne geophysical survey program is part of the Ontario government’s effort to determine the quality and potential of the province’s mineral resources,” said O’Neil.
