Agnico chief tells board of illness

The board of directors of Agnico- Eagle Mines (TSE) was recently told that the company’s president and chief executive officer, Paul Penna, is being treated for cancer. In a press release from the gold- silver producer, the company said Penna advised the board that his prognosis for a complete recovery is excellent.

The company said Penna is carrying on with his full duties and there will be no change in the management, operation or direction of the company.

Agnico produces gold from mining operations in northwestern Quebec. It owns silver properties in the Cobalt, Ont., area and is active in exploration throughout Canada and the U.S.
