AFRICA SPECIAL — Study examines Kipushi mine

An engineering firm has been retained by America Mineral Fields (AMZ-V) to carry out a preliminary feasibility study for the past-producing Kipushi zinc mine in Zaire.

London-based Techpro Mining and Metallurgy expects to complete the study in the first quarter of 1997. The firm is examining the short- and long-term rehabilitation of existing flotation circuits and the construction of a new flotation circuit.

The study will also examine new smelter facilities and a facility for the production of elemental sulphur or sulphuric acid.

The Kipushi zinc project is a joint-venture with Gecamines, a state-owned mining company.
