AECB defers McLean Lake OK

The Atomic Energy Control Board (AECB) has decided to defer final approval of the construction of the JEB tailings management facility at the McClean Lake uranium project in northern Saskatchewan.

In making the announcement, the AECB cited various construction deficiencies. The agency says it requires further evidence that the design and specifications meet performance criteria before it will grant final approval.

The project is 70%-held by Cogema Resources of France and 22.5% by Denison Mines (DEN-T).

The partners hoped to use the JEB pit (now mined out) to store tailings from the McLean Lake uranium project, scheduled for production early next year.
