Accident-free year at Cluff

The Cluff Lake uranium mine in northern Saskatchewan has gone a full year without a lost-time accident, equivalent to more than 650,000 accident-free hours.

“This was achieved only through the active involvement of all our mine and mill staff, the Occupational Health and Safety committee and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union Local 48-S,” says Fern Lambert, general manager of the mine.

He attributes the achievement to an experienced and well-trained workforce as well as active Total Quality Management programs on site.

“Accomplishing this feat does not happen by accident,” adds Arnaud de Bourayne, president of Cogema Resources, which operates the mine.

“To work safely in a mine and mill environment requires constant personal awareness, risk management and the co-operation of every employee.”
