Accident claims two geologists

Geologists Jeffrey Deen, 36, and Mark Burnett, 21, died on the night of July 12, when their vehicle veered off a mountain road near Cerro de Pasco, Peru. Also killed was driver Pablo Villajuan Caso, 29, of La Oraya, Peru.

All three were employees of RTZ, stationed in Lima. Deen, a resident of Boulder, Colo, completed a PhD thesis on the Julcani district of Peru at the University of Colorado. Burnett, who hailed from Bradford, West Yorkshire, was a recent BSc graduate of the Royal School of Mines.
