Abitibi drilling

A drilling program is under way on the Bourlamaque gold property held by Abitibi Resources. Located near Val d’Or, Que., the property was tested by a geophysical survey which identified several targets warranting diamond drilling, the company says.

Drilling will also be testing for extensions of an oreshoot which was partially mined from 1980-1982. If new reserves are outlined, Abitibi says that mining could take place from existing underground facilities.

Drilling is also under way on the Bevcon and Buffadison properties, also in Quebec. The follow-up program is designed to confirm tonnages outlined near the Buffadison shaft. By funding the program, Abitibi will increase its interest in the project to 45%.

Financing negotiations are also in progress which, if successful, will enable the company to dewater the underground workings on both properties and resume underground exploration.
