Abcourt reports lower tonnage

Production totalled 60,912 tons grading 5.62% zinc and 3.33 oz silver per ton during the period, compared with 69,833 tons grading 5.06% zinc and 4.5 oz silver during the same six months in 1987.

The company says the main Barvue ramp caved in last September which blocked access for a month to most of the stopes. Also, production was halted in December when workers were assigned to a stope preparation program.

The grade was lower, the company says, because recovery of a pillar under the old Barvue open pit produced dilution. Also, following a rise in the zinc price, lower grade stopes were mined.

Abcourt has a contract with Noranda Minerals for the processing of its ore at Noranda’s Matagami mill.

Abcourt reports a net loss of $149,000 for the 6-month period.
