A 47-tonne sample from the A-4 kimberlite pipe near Kirkland Lake, Ont., has yielded two gem-quality diamonds weighing 0.135 and 0.074 carats respectively, reports Regal Goldfields (CDN).
Interested only in the commercial viability of the pipe, Regal did not test for microdiamonds.
The new find raises to four the number of macrodiamonds found in the A-4 pipe. Regal estimates the pipe has a surface area of 15 to 18 acres (6-7.2 hectares), but the sampling was contained in an area of 3.9 acres (1.6 hectares).
Goldhunter Explorations (ASE) has an option to earn a 50% interest in the pipe. Its first $250,0000 payment is due May 25.
In partnership with KWG Resources (ME), Regal has started processing 120 tonnes of material from the C-14 pipe in nearby Clifford Twp.
