50 YEARS AGO PROPOSE QUARRYING AT ATHONA PROPERTY

Open-cut methods may be applied for mining the entire granite mass lying between the east and west gabbro contacts at the Athona property in the Goldfields section of the Lake Athabaska area in northern Saskatchewan. Such a recommendation was made by the company’s engineers, according to J. J. Byrne, president and general manager.

About 1,340,000 tons can be considered positive ore and will average $3.40 uncut or $3 cut grade per ton. About 70% of all this ore, or about 2,500,000 tons, can be handled from surface.
