Halifax-based NovaGold Resources (TSE) expects to begin a second drill program on its base metal property in the California Lake area of northeastern New Brunswick after receiving results from the first five holes.

Shallow holes 91-10-1 and 91-10-2, spaced 100 metres apart, intersected 3 metres at 2.93% copper and 0.14% zinc and 1.2 metres at 2.46% copper and 0.11% zinc respectively.

Mineralization consists mainly of pyrite and pyrrotite within an extensive zone of chloritic alteration in sedimentary rocks.

NovaGold says the style of mineralization and alteration is typical of distal portions of the Bathurst Camp deposit. The occurrence is 18 km west of the Brunswick No. 12 mine and one kilometre from a small lens of massive sulphides grading 10% combined lead and zinc.

The company has recently staked ground stretching for 7.5 km along the favorable horizon.
