Jeff Parshley is a registered professional geologist with more than 20 years of experience in the mining industry including mine closure, environmental geochemistry, abandoned mine auditing, mine permitting, reclamation design, mine site remediation and metals leaching research. He has developed reclamation and closure plans for numerous large and small mines throughout North America including precious metal, base metal and industrial mineral deposits. Jeff has been involved in the promulgation of new reclamation regulations in Nevada and New Mexico and has developed and permitted reclamation plans for the first new mining operations proposed under these new regulations. He was also a senior reviewer for proposed mine closure guidelines for the European community.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Geology from Dartmouth College, he started his career as an exploration geologist with Chevron Resources in 1981 and before joining SRK, worked at Chevron’s Research laboratory in Fullerton, California.

His primary interest these days is the closure-related aspects of mining projects. His closure planning work takes him to projects around the world and to a variety of environments. He works with his clients at all stages of the mining life cycle to ensure that closure is considered throughout the process. As part of his work for clients in Nevada, he was the primary author of the Nevada Standardized Reclamation Cost Estimator model that is now being used in a number of other countries around the world.

Ron has served as Senior Vice President Operations for Hecla Mining Company since 2006 and Vice President of Operation since 2002. Prior to rejoining Hecla Ron was Vice President -Operations for Stillwater Mining Company from July 2000 to May 2002. He held various positions with Hecla Mining Company including Manager of the Lucky Friday, Rosebud and Republic Mines and Vice President of Operations between October 1987 and July 2000. Ron also held various management positions with the Climax Molybdenum Company from 1980 to 1987 and started his mining career with Homestake Mining Company in Creede, Colorado, as an underground miner. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. In addition to the Northwest Mining Association, Ron is a member of SME, Alaska Miners Association, and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. Ron resides in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with his wife Susan and their three children.
