The joint owners of the Doyon gold mine east of Rouyn-Noranda, Que., announced plans to deepen the shaft by 370 metres to 1,024 metres.
The mine, in production since 1980, is owned by American Barrick Resources (TSE) and Cambior (TSE). Barrick became the operator following its takeover of Lac Minerals.
The projected $23.7-million cost of the project involves lateral development work, exploratory drilling and equipment purchases.
