1993 PDAC convention exceeds expectations

The 61st annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) was “a fantastic success from every point-of-view,” according to Anthony Andrews, PDAC managing director.

The convention took place in late March at Toronto’s Royal York Hotel. Billed as an international affair, it attracted more than 2,800 delegates, exhibitors and guests from more than 30 countries. This was the first year since 1989 that attendance had increased and Andrews believes the upward trend will continue.

When asked whether the international focus might divert people’s attention from mining in Canada, Andrews said the flow of business is now international and the PDAC must reflect that trend. He added that the increase in foreign activity will help maintin the strength of the domestic mining industry by providing employment.

Andrews also noted that a pre-convention diamond workshop was extremely successful, attracting more than 400 participants.

Next year’s convention is scheduled for March 6-9 in Toronto.
