Kerry Knoll, chairman of the board of Generation Mining, explains why the Marathon palladium-copper project in northern Ontario is a unique opportunity for Canada to build a reliable supply chain for minerals needed in automobile manufacturing. Kerry spoke with Northern Miner staff writer Blair McBride at GMS in Toronto in May 2023.

  1. Marathons population boomed with Hemlo.(3200 TO 7500) After the mine was exhausted and no longer seemed worthy of minning by the big companies (Noranda and tech) the town of Marathons population dwindled to 3200. The only reason Marathon is not a ghost town is because of the two companies minning the left overs from Hemlo. The town has already lost its mill which devastated Marathon. When Greenstone is finished minning there will be a big hols left in the wilderness and the town AGAIN.
My wish is that they do not dig up the whole north shore in minning because all you have to do is look at the devastation left from Hemlo. After the 614 turn off to Manitouwadge you can see he tailings that reach to the heavens which is not a pretty sight.Cedar lake and creek are destroyed as a result and other watershed as well.
