High River Gold Mines (HRG-T) has agreed to a share swap that will see its stake in Russian gold producer Buryatzoloto climb to 63.1%.

Shares in Gabriel Resources (GBU-T) increased by as much as 54%, to $2, on Aug. 30, after the company announced a $24.8-million private-placement deal with Newmont Mining (NEM-N).

U.S. stock markets rose slightly over the period Aug. 25-31. The S&P 500 index was up eight points, or 0.73%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.74%, or 75.29 points, to close at 10,173.92 points.
