The S&P-TSX Venture composite index made respectable gains in the Feb. 14-18 week, up 66.12 points to close at 2,423.68. Volume averaged 202 million shares traded daily, while 143 companies hit 52-week highs and 37 reached new lows.
U.S. stock markets overall proved remarkably resilient in the Feb. 14-18 trading week, posting their third straight weekly advance.

Rising capex, operating expenses and currencies have driven UBS Investment Research to raise its long-term metal price forecasts for copper, zinc, nickel and lead.

By looking only at the TSX Composite Index, the recession would appear to be miles away. The Index was up 2% or 288 points for the Feb. 14-18 and actually got within 6% shy of the 15,000 level that it peaked at before the recession hit.
