Nicola Mining (TSXV: NIM; US-OTC: HUSIF) is focused on its main New Craigmont copper project in southern British Columbia, which hosts some of the highest-grade copper in North America, says CEO Peter Espig.
After the company took over the past-producing New Craigmont in 2015, Espig recalled a conversation with the vice-president exploration at the time of Teck Resources (TSX: TECK.A, TECK.B; NYSE: TECK), who noted that Craigmont is in the top five high-grade copper projects in the world.
The historic Craigmont mine produced more than 36.7 million tons of copper grading 1.3% copper between 1961 and 1982.
Much surveying and mapping has been done at Craigmont in recent years, Espig said in a presentation at The Northern Miner’s International Metals Symposium on Dec. 1. Drilling this year returned strong results and more drilling is planned for 2025.
Nicola also holds its Treasure Mountain silver project, about 100 km south of New Craigmont. Although the past-producing mine has been in care and maintenance since 2013, Espig said the company is considering restarting production next year due to rising silver prices.
