TRX Gold (TSX: TNX; NYSE: TRX), formerly Tanzanian Gold, wants to double processing at its Buckreef mine in the East Africa country to 2,000 tonnes per day by early next year, CEO Stephen Mullowney says in a new video.
The increase from a new ball mill would lift annual gold output to more than 25,000 ounces. The site holds 35.9 million measured and indicated tonnes grading 1.77 grams gold per tonne for 2 million oz. gold, Mullowney said at The Northern Miner‘s Canadian Mining Symposium in London, U.K., in October.
Mullowney described the company’s relations with the government as open and constructive. He noted how the Lake Victoria gold region in Tanzania includes Barrick Gold‘s (TSX: ABX; NYSE: GOLD) Bulyanhulu mine and AngloGold Ashanti‘s (NYSE: AU; JSE: ANG) Geita mine.
Many Buckreef employees are Liverpool football club supporters so one deposit is named Anfield after the team’s stadium, the CEO said in an interview with Chris Hinde of industry newsletter Pick & Pen.
