Metalor gains ‘Fairmined Refiner’ status

The Colombia-based Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) has given refiner Metalor its ‘Fairmined Refiner’ designation, making the firm the first London Bullion Market Association (LBMA)-approved refiner to hold that status.

Switzerland-based Metalor can now offer refining services for Fairmined gold upon request.

According to ARM, gold certified as Fairmined is ethically produced by artisanal and small-scale miners who meet requirements for social development, environmental protection, labour conditions and economic development in their communities. The gold’s origin is fully traceable from the mine to the retailer.

“Metalor continuously deploys efforts to ensure the precious metals it refines and transforms come only from legitimate sources,” Metalor sales and marketing director Reto Steiner said. “We are honoured to be the first and only LBMA-approved precious metals refiner in the world to offer refining services in Fairmined gold.”
