Rocmec boosts gold resource at Rocmec 1

Rocmec Mining (RMI-V) has improved resources at its Rocmec 1 gold project near Rouyn-Noranda,Que., by 80% since the last estimate in 2007.

Measured and indicated resources now stand at 477,400 tonnes grading 5.59 grams gold per tonne for 85,900 oz. gold.

Inferred resources are 1.76 million tonnes grading 9.81 grams gold per tonne for 556,400 oz. gold.

Rocmec used a cutoff grade of 3 grams gold per tonne and capped grades at 45 grams gold.

There are five vein structures included in the resource: Boucher, Boucher 2, McDowell, Shaft and Talus.

The company notes that the Boucher and Boucher 2 structures have average grades of 13.77 grams gold per tonne and 15.86 grams gold, respectively.

The project is located bout 35 km west of Rouyn-Noranda on the southern part of the Abitibi greenstone belt.

Gold bearing veins at Rocmec 1 are quartz carbonate veins boxed in differentiated intrusive rocks that contain quartz and show a granophyric texture.

The McDowel zone is the main vein system. The best gold content is associated with massive pyrite bands as well as with disseminated, crushed fine pyrite that’s associated with chlorite. However, diorites represent 80% of the rock, and are coarse-grained, massive to porphyritic.

Boucher is located at 16 metres depth on the footwall of the McDowell zone. It has the presence of visible gold associated with quartz carbonate vein. Boucher 2 is similar, but is located 25 metres behind the north of the footwall of McDowell.

Rocmec bought the property in October 2005 and since then has spent $23 million rehabilitating the property, surface and underground infrastructure, diamond drilling, equipment, drifting and the acquisition and instillation of a 75 tonne per day underground treatment plant.

The property has a 100-metre deep, two-compartment shaft and a 844-metre decline leading to an underground with 1,700 metres of drifting.

Rocmec shares were trading at 7¢ today, down half a cent, on a trading volume of 1.3 million shares.
