Meeting demands

Tom Albanese, CEO of Rio Tinto, will address the PDAC-CIM luncheon on March 5. Albanese joined Rio Tinto in 1993 and held a series of management positions before being appointed to the board in 2006. He was chief executive of the industrial minerals group from 2001 to 2004 and chief executive, copper and exploration in 2004. He became CEO in May of 2007. Currently, Albanese is a director of Rio Tinto plc, Rio Tinto Limited and Ivanhoe Mines Limited. He served on the executive committee of the International Copper Association from 2004 to 2006. Albanese will discuss the challenges of the historically high demand for materials, linked with globalization and consolidation. How are we to meet unprecedented and sustained demand, find the orebodies and human resources we needs, and keep production costs under control? Rio Tinto’s takeover of Alcan is an example of a way forward — consolidation to gain greater scale that will help meet the challenges. The luncheon is generously sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Tickets ($55 each) may be purchased online at pdac.ca.
