TSX Venture Exchange Nov. 6-12

After toying with its all-time nominal high around US$850 per oz., gold prices pulled back over the Nov. 6-12 trading session, prompting a 200.6-point decline in the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index. The Venture board closed at 2,952.62 amid a round of profit taking. Daily trading volumes for the week averaged 116 million shares.

The number of junior explorers enjoying new annual highs shrunk to 39, while 58 saw share prices slide to 52-week lows over the session.

Continuing to ride the McFaulds Lake-area frenzy, MacDonald Mines Exploration grabbed top trading honours for the week with 55.1 million shares changing hands. Recent drilling of geophysical anomalies returned massive sulphides consisting of pyrrhotite, pyrite and chalcopyrite.

Carmax Explorations also saw continued speculation on pending assays from its Eaglehead property, in northern B.C.’s Quesnel Trough. The stock inched up 2 on 15.5 million shares of volume to close the week at 28 per share.

Shares of Sage Gold pulled back 7 to 43 apiece on trading volume of 12.6 million. The company has garnered market attention because of the proximity of its holdings to Kodiak Exploration’s Hercules gold discovery in the Beardmore-Geraldton greenstone belt.

Anglo Swiss Resources posted a 75% gain on the week, closing up 21.5 at 50 per share on volume of 12.5 million shares. Drilling on its Kenville mine project, in southeastern B.C., has returned significant visual mineralization consistent with a copper-gold porphyry system.

Callinan Mines saw its shares surge 67% on news that it received its first royalty payment from HudBay Minerals for the 777 mines at Flin Flon, Man. The junior’s stock closed up 60 at $1.50 per share on trading volume of 1.6 million shares.

On more than 4 million shares traded, Northern Shield Resources’ stock plummeted 55% over the week to close off 58 at 48. The junior is partnered with Impala Platinum Holdings of South Africa.

After strong recent gains, Xemplar Energy closed the week down $1.08 at $5.17 on volume of almost 6.4 million shares traded.
