TSX Venture Exchange April 25-May 1

Continued strength in metals and energy prices further buoyed the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index to a closing high of 3,129.99 over the April 25-May 1 session, up 34.14 points, or 1.1%. Average daily trading volumes were also bolstered to 99.8 million shares over the period.

As expected, the bulls far outweighed the bears over the week, with 155 junior explorers reaching new 52-week highs while only 11 dropped to new annual lows.

Kazakhstan-focused junior producer Eurasia Gold grabbed top volume honours for the week; shares in the company gained over 200%, or 27, to close at 40 on volume of 26.8 million shares. Eurasia is in the process of acquiring a Kazakh company with an existing gold operation to add to its current production portfolio. In 2005, Eurasia sold just over 27,000 oz. gold.

With volume of almost 23.7 million shares, Consolidated Gold Win Ventures grabbed second spot among the most actives and traded up 7, or 39%, to close at 25. Surface and soil sampling on the company’s northeastern Nevada Dolly Varden claims returned high-grade values of silver, zinc and copper. In addition, recent drilling on the junior’s Mud Lake diamond project, southeast of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, intersected a kimberlite sill in a few holes.

Plexmar Resources gained two pennies to close at 33.5 on volume of 14.3 million shares. Continued trench sampling on its Bolsa del Diablo project in Peru returned intervals of high-grade gold (up to 10 metres of 43.5 grams gold per tonne) along veins in the altered volcanics.

Romarco Minerals gained a nickel on volume of 14.2 million shares to close at 32.5. Drill permits are in hand for the company’s Peru and Nevada-Cortez trend gold projects, where work programs will soon begin. Major shareholder RMB Australia sold a significant portion of its more than 13% interest in the company.

Shares of sister Red Lake, Ont., gold explorers Skyharbour Resources and Cypress Development fell, following investor disappointment over initial drill results from their Broulan Reef joint-venture. Skyharbour was down 4 to 14 on volume of 11.7 million shares, while Cypress Development was 7.5 lower at 23 on volume of 7.4 million shares. The best result from the first five holes was 1 metre of 3.2 grams gold, with most intercepts falling at or below 1 gram gold over a few metres.

Yukon Zinc continued to ride strong zinc and silver prices, trading up a penny to close at 79 per share on almost 7.3 million shares. The company plans development of its Wolverine zinc-copper-lead deposit in the eastern Yukon.

Trading up $2.25, or 105%, to close at $4.40 per share, Continental Precious Minerals tabled plans to study the “fuel production potential” of its multi-metal sediment licences in north-central Sweden. The project hosts significant uranium, vanadium, molybdenum and nickel mineralization in shales. The alum shale unit is near surface and is up to 180 metres thick.
