Redcorp tests anomalies at Lagoa Salgada

A recent drilling program aimed at testing five geological and geophysical anomalies failed to intersect mineralization or were abandoned before reaching their target depths at the Lagoa Salgada copper-zinc-gold-silver project in Portugal.

Operator Redcorp Ventures (RDV-T, RDFVF-O) notes that three of the targets were not adequately tested owing to technical problems with the drilling. One hole deviated off target, while two others were abandoned before reaching their target depth. The two targets that were tested did not encounter any mineralization.

Redcorp’s recent program was focused on stepout drilling to explore for new massive sulphide deposits similar to those found elsewhere in the famous Iberian pyrite belt. The targets tested in the recent program were identified using existing gravity data that was reprocessed using inversion modelling and incorporated into geological data garnered from previous drill programs.

In the 1990s, a previous operator discovered a volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposit hosted within a series of intensely hydrothermally altered volcanic rocks at Lagoa Salgada. The mineralized zones also contain highly anomalous levels of tin and associated alteration mineralogy. Highlights of previous drilling include a 65.8-metre interval grading 0.3% copper, 5.5% lead, 8.7% zinc, 108.7 grams silver and 1.55 grams gold per tonne.

As its next step, Redcorp plans to conduct a down-hole geophysical program to test for off-hole targets near the previously selected targets. Basement-depth soundings will also be carried out over selected regions of the property. The data will be used to refine the geophysical models and define targets for future drilling.
