Michael Doggett, director of the master’s program in mineral exploration at Queen’s University, will be among the speakers at GeolSoc, a conference held at the same time as the annual general meeting of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, April 24-27, in Toronto.
GeolSoc will include a 1.5-day geochemistry workshop followed by numerous technical sessions. Several field trips round out the agenda.
Other speakers include the Ontario Geological Survey’s John Ayer, the Geological Survey of Canada’s Al Galley and Mark Hannington, and University of Toronto Professor Emeritus Anthony Naldrett.
The conference is preceded by an April 23 workshop titled “Practical Approaches to Exploration Geochemistry for Mineral Deposits.” This will be followed by a slate of special sessions beginning Sunday afternoon.
The field trips begin on April 28 with an excursion to FNX Mining’s underground nickel/copper/platinum-group-elements operation in Sudbury, Ont. As well, SGS Lakefield will host a tour of its facilities near Peterborough, Ont. Another 12-day trip to Spain and Portugal is in the planning stage.
