Cobalt, Ont., the cradle of the province’s mining industry, has been chosen as the subject of a full-length film production. It is designed to recreate the legendary figures and document the major events of this historic era. The project, being organized by the Cobalt Saga Syndicate, will be produced by independent filmmaker Christopher Chapman.
“It is a great story, and it has to be told with living witnesses,” says Merv Webb of the syndicate’s funding committee. “We need some Canadian heroes.”
The committee plans to apply for film grants from both the federal and provincial governments. “It is time to honor our mining pioneers and put some romance back into mining,” say the committee members.
Those familiar with the era are invited to contribute their stories. Contact Merv Webb at 862-9144.
