Mining Congress calls for deepsea research

The AMC told a congressional committee that more than $500 million has been invested already in deep ocean research since 1960 by the domestic mining community. But the current worldwide mining slump makes it difficult for domestic companies to continue research, said the mining congress. In other countries, however, government- backed research is continuing and America is being left behind in deepsea mining research, it warned.
