Most mines cost $200(US) to operate

According to a study by Andre Lemieux of the federal department ofEd Resources, cash operating costs of the 45 mines inCose sole or most valuable product was gold averaged$ut $200(US). Those mines account for about 85%oproduction, the remaining 15% coming as abations or from placer gold.

Detailed information on mine-by-mine gold production costs inCsually difficult to compile because of companies’r certain information and variations in howmcause of numerous mergers andaompanies disclosed certain 1986fhave not.

Cash operating costs ranged from $129 to $563 ($93 to $405 in U.S.c. Lemieux points out that the average trading price of goldo Metal Exchange in 1986 was $511 or $368(US) per oz.

More than two-thirds of the gold produced by those 45 mines, 1.96m oz out of 2.84 million oz, were produced at a cost rangingf0 to $400 per oz ($144 to $288). Only 11.5 tonnes wereper cost and 16 tonnes were produced at a lower.
