Cominco/Jonpol encouraged with Garrcon exploration

Based on work completed last September, Cominco Ltd has recommended that additional exploration work be performed on the company’s Garrcon property held in joint venture with Jonpol Explorations.

Located in Garrison Twp., Ont., the 12-claim property has been the site of a $500,000 Jonpol-funded exploration program since 1985. Cominco, which is the project operator, has been successful in outlining three mineralized zones.

At the Jonpol annual meeting, company president John A. Pollock, outlined the main elements of a Cominco exploration report on the property. The report concludes that the 1986 program was successful in indicating the possible western extension of the North mineralized zone.

The North zone, which is up to 10.7 ft in width and grades to 0.35 oz gold per ton, has a drill-indicated depth of 500 ft and strikes for 200 ft. It is truncated to the west by a north-south fault.

Another zone to the south, has also been delineated which is less than 6 ft in width and proximal to the Destor-Porcupine fault. The zone has been traced along strike for 1,300 ft and to a depth of 500 ft. Erratic grades range from 0.034-0.38 oz gold per ton, Cominco reports.

During the year, Jonpol expects to receive a $130,000 royalty payment from Louvem’s Chimo gold mine operation in Quebec. Jonpol holds a 0.05% gross royalty on the property. Royalties could also be expected from the company’s Kirkland Lake area claim. Lac Minerals, which has completed a 7,200-ft shaft on its Macassa property, plans to drift onto the Jonpol ground in 1987.

With $500,000 in flow-through funds available to the company, work will be starting on several other properties. In Casa Berardi, Que., a $160,000 program, including 4,000 ft of diamond drilling, is expected to begin this fall. The company holds a 50% stake in 211 claims in Douay and Vezza twps., and 50% in 52 claims located in Noyon Twp.
