The Canadian Exploration and Geophysicists Society (KEGS) has announced a geophysical scholarship in the name of Heikki Limion, a chief geophysicist for Toronto-based Newmont Exploration, who died in the summer of 2000.
The scholarship is being financed, in large part, by Limion’s family, as well as by Inco, one of his former employers. Friends and colleagues have also contributed.
The first scholarship will be awarded this spring to an undergraduate studying geophysics in Canada.
This marks the second year that KEGS has provided scholarship funding to undergraduate students. The society established a foundation in 1999 to foster education in geophysics.
