Virginia drills gold at La Grande Sud

Virginia Gold Mines (VIA-M) continues to intersect gold mineralization at the recently discovered Veines zone, part of the company’s La Grande Sud deposit in Quebec’s James Bay region.

The zone, situated 200 metres north of zone 32, consists of gold- and sulphide-bearing quartz veins that have been followed over 500 metres and to a depth of 200 metres. The structure remains open in all directions.

The best new result comes from hole 158, drilled 100 metres beneath several good intersections released last year. Hole 158 cut 6.5 metres of 18.14 grams gold per tonne, including 1 metre of 113.29 grams gold.

Further drilling is planned on the zone this year.

In other news, Virginia has closed a revised agreement at its Payne and Duquet properties in the Ungava region of northern Quebec. The properties were previously held in a 50-50 joint venture with government-owned Soquem. However, Cambiex Exploration now has the option to acquire a 33.3% undivided interest in the two projects by spending $1.4 million on exploration over four years. However, Virginia and Soquem will retain their operator status on the Payne and Duquet projects, respectively.

With the Payne and Duquet deals occupying Cambiex’s time of late, the junior has postponed the date of its annual meeting to May 7 from April 16.
