Hall moves to Elliot Lake

The contents of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame have been handed over to the mayor of Elliot Lake, Ont., for a temporary stay of three to five years.

George Miller, chairman of the Hall of Fame and president of the Mining Association of Canada, handed over the contents to Mayor George Farkouh at a reception in Ottawa. The Hall will remain in Elliot Lake until a decision is reached as to where the display will be housed in the long term.

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame was founded in 1989, and its display consists of portraits of individuals who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement in the country’s mining industry.

The Hall recently inducted eight additional individuals, who will be honored at its annual dinner, on Jan. 8, 1996, in Toronto (T.N.M., Dec. 4/95).
