CIM to preview Vietnamese mining opportunities

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum is hosting a talk on mining opportunities in Vietnam at a noon luncheon on March 31.

Jed Dagenais, vice president and senior mining consultant for AGRA Earth and Environmental, points out that a high degree of new international recognition and favorable geology, combined with an industrious work ethic and low labor costs, make Vietnam a more interesting target for miners than it was in the past.

With Vietnam currently undergoing a major transformation from a centrally controlled economy to a market economy, Dagenais believes it is reasonable to expect the country’s mineral resources to become attractive again. For information and reservations, contact James Wickens at (604) 682-7082 or fax (604) 662-7593.

(The March 20 issue of The Northern Miner incorrectly reported the luncheon as a talk on what the mining community can do to inform the public about its initiatives in the area of environmental protection.)
