Drilling on the South Kemess property in north-central British Columbia is adding to reserves with the first nine holes of the 1991 exploration program returning an average intersection of 262.3 ft. grading 0.28% copper and 0.024 oz. gold per ton.
The South Kemess property is 60% owned by El Condor Resources (VSE) and 40% owned by St. Philips Resources (VSE).
Drilling on the property last year outlined a zone of porphyry copper-gold mineralization measuring about 1,300×1,600 ft. and ranging in depth up to 700 ft. The zone is open in all directions, and prior to beginning this year’s drilling program, was estimated to contain preliminary reserves of about 78 million tons grading 0.30% copper and 0.018 oz. gold.
Jeffery Franzen, a director of El Condor, said three of the recent holes were 330-ft. stepouts while the remaining six were infill holes designed to test grade continuity between holes.
Franzen said the results were conclusive and drilling is now continuing on 330-ft. centres to the south and west. He added that the combined copper and gold grades are showing a generally increasing pattern to the west and south. Drill holes 91-42 and 91-43 tested a mineralized outcrop about 1,000 ft. to the northwest of the deposit but failed to intersect any significant mineralization.
Drilling on El Condor’s 100% owned North Kemess property is continuing although no results have been released. Franzen said the drilling is designed to bring widely spaced holes drilled last year down to a 330-ft. spacing. Preliminary estimates based on last year’s drilling put reserves at about 84 million tons grading 0.16% copper and 0.010 oz. gold.
