Project operator BHP Minerals Canada has entered a third phase of drilling on Southern African Minerals’ (ASE) Caber base metal property near Matagami, Que.
Two zones of massive sulphide mineralization are outlined. The upper zone has yielded values of up to 3.28% zinc, 1.79% copper and 0.4 grams gold per tonne over a true width of 12 metres in Hole CB-94-5, while the lower has returned up to 18.2% zinc and 1.85% copper over 1.9 metres in CB-94-8. The new program, totaling 2,900 metres, will test the geometry of the ore zone and probe for other discrete zones in the immediate area. BHP can earn up to a 70% interest by spending $3 million on exploration over seven years and paying $250,000 over five years.
Meanwhile, at Southern Africa’s Lac Marcaut gold property 150 km north of Matagami, Cambiex Exploration (ME) has begun a 2,000-metre drill program to test a gold-bearing iron sulphide formation with an indicated strike length of 6 km. Grab samples have yielded up to 27 grams of gold.
The property is owned jointly by Southern Africa and Fancamp Resources (VSE). Cambiex can earn a 70% interest by spending $3.5 million on exploration and paying $475,000.
