Maps planned for 8 townships

Three geological mapping projects will be conducted to identify mineral potential in an area in northwestern

Ontario extending across eight townships from Kashabowie to Murillo, Ontario’s Ministry of Northern Development and Mines announced. A $1.2-million budget has been set up for the 4-year

survey, which will involve three project geologists and 12 university students.

The work is covered under the current 4-year Northern

Ontario Development Agreement between the federal and Ontario governments. Meanwhile, the ministry announced government assistance totalling $308,500 for six mining roads under the Northern Ontario Resources Transportation (NORT) program.

NORT normally provides 50% of road costs, up to $30,000 per kilometre. Some of these roads, the ministry says, will also improve access for public recreation or the transportation of forest products.
