Startup operations are expected to begin soon aimed at bringing the Formosa-Silver Butte zinc-copper mine near Riddle, Ore., back into full production this summer.
Operator Formosa Resources (VSE) brought the 400-ton-per-day underground mine in production in the spring of 1990, but was forced to suspend operations that fall because of a forest fire hazard and a shortage of working capital.
Formosa expects its next smelter shipment will be made in the fall of this year. In the meantime, it is receiving financial support from Washi Kosan of Japan, its largest shareholder.
The Formosa-Silver Butte mine property is accessible by road.
