BC promotes mineral investment

The government of British Columbia will spend $1.2 million over two years to fund a geoscience program designed to stimulate mineral exploration.

The Rocks to Riches program will be managed by the British Columbia & Yukon Chamber of Mines (BCYCM) and will see prospectors and others in the exploration sector compete for money. The first competition takes place immediately, while a second is slated for spring 2004.

Participants are asked to submit a letter stating the aim and scope of their projects plus cost estimates. Submissions for the first competition will be accepted no later than June 5.

Submissions may be sent by e-mail to Leilah Tate at ltate@chamber ofmines.bc.ca or by post to 840 West Hastings St., Vancouver, B.C. V6C 1C8. All submissions should be labelled “Rocks to Riches.”

Applicants who meet the criteria will be asked to submit a formal proposal, which must be received by June 20. The winners will be announced in early July. For more information, visit the Chamber of Mines web site at www.bc-mining-house.com
