The Montreal Exchange currently includes six mining and metals firms among the 25 companies that make up its market portfolio or general market index. Newly added are LAC Minerals and Echo Bay Mines. The other four are Inco Ltd., Noranda Inc., Placer Dome and Alcan Aluminum.
The ME’s mining and minerals index is composed of 10 companies, including the six listed above. The other four companies are American Barrick Resources, Cominco Ltd., Rio Algom and Teck Corp. Deleted from the mining and minerals index were Brunswick Mining and Smelting and Denison Mines.
