Wollastonite is an industrial mineral used in the filler and ceramics markets. There are also some uses as an asbestos substitute. Demand remains relatively small at 200,000 tons per year, with the bulk of that being supplied by Processed Minerals, a U.S.-based wollastonite producer and marketer.
According to Sikaman, product demand is growing at a rate of 12% annually. As a result of the find, the company has decided to defer its gold exploration activities on the Gilbert property and to concentrate on evaluating the wollastonite deposit.
