The names of the eight new inductees will be added to the original 12 outstanding achievers who were honored last January.
Norman Keevil Jr., chairman of The Mining Association of Canada, chairman of Cominco Ltd., and president and chief executive officer of Teck Corp., will be the keynote speaker at the dinner.
For the present, the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame consists of a display unit of portraits of the inductees accompanied by a brief citation on each of them. In 1989, the exhibit has travelled extensively across the country and was shown at such mining events as an Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines’ function in Thunder Bay on Feb 7-8, 1989; the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Convention, March 5-8 in Toronto; The Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CIM) Annual Convention, April 30-May 4, in Quebec City; The Mining Association of Canada’s Annual Meeting and the Canadian Mineral Outlook Conference, respectively, May 24-25, in Ottawa; the Uranium Festival, in Elliot Lake, June 22-July 2; and the CIM Calgary Regional Meeting, Oct 25-27.
