Canadian Mining Hall of Fame calling for nominations

This year’s selection will be administered through The Mining Association of Canada which, on behalf of the CMHF, is soliciting nominations from the four sponsoring organizations, as well as from its 13 country-wide associated organizations. The Hall of Fame will not accept nominations directly from individuals.

Each sponsor is eligible to nominate up to five individuals, while each associate will be able to nominate one. The final selection will be made by the hall’s board of directors, which plans to induct eight people from the list of candidates — four living and four posthumously.

The names of unsuccessful nominees will be kept strictly confidential and they will be eligible for re-nomination in a later year, according to M aurice R. Brown, chairman.

At last year’s inaugural induction ceremony, 12 of Canada’s mining greats were honored. A mobile display unit of their portraits has already been shown or is on request for six mining-oriented gatherings. A permanent home for a duplicate display unit may soon be found, Brown hopes.

Copies of the guidelines for nominations may be obtained from: The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, c/o The Mining Association of Canada, Suite 809 – 350 Sparks Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1R 7S8.

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame is sponsored by The Mining Association of Canada, Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Northern Miner Press Limited.

Associated organizations are the Mining Association of British Columbia, British Columbia and Yukon Chamber of Mines, Alberta Chamber of Resources, Northwest Territories Chamber of Mines, Mining Association of Manitoba, Yukon Chamber of Mines, Saskatchewan Mining Association, Ontario Mining Association, Quebec Metal Mining Association, Quebec Prospectors Association, New Brunswick Mining Association, Chamber of Mineral Resources of Nova Scotia and the Mineral Deposits Division of the Geological Association of Canada.
