A prefeasibility study is expected within weeks for Claude Resources’ (TSE) Seabee gold property in Saskatchewan. Being prepared by A.C.A. Howe International, a mining consulting group, the study will review and assess data gathered from an $8-million surface and underground exploration program, completed by Claude earlier this year.
A 100% interest in the project reverted to Claude after partner and project operator, Placer Dome Inc. (TSE), decided to terminate its option.
Reserves calculated by Placer stood at 813,670 tons grading 0.36 oz gold per ton to a depth of 700 ft, Claude says. The 1987 program included a 3,000-ft decline ramp to 500 ft and the mining of 40 tons of samples from several areas of the mineralized zone. Underground results confirmed the continuity, grade and width of the deposit.
Some of the better results from underground sampling include a 7.2-ft section from a drift face assaying 0.62 oz gold per ton and 7.2 ft grading 0.39 oz gold. A sample from a crosscut graded 0.63 oz gold across 20.2 ft.
Metallurgical testing concludes that the rock is amenable to conventional milling techniques with recoveries ranging around 92%. Following receipt of the prefeasibility study, a final feasibility report will be initiated, the company says.
