Hall of Fame dinner postponed

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame inaugural dinner has been postponed to Jan 9, 1989.

The dinner, where the first inductees into the Hall of Fame will be announced, was to have been held on Nov. 21, 1988. However, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney has called a general election for that date.

At the dinner, to be held in the Ballroom of the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, 12 individuals will be cited for their outstanding accomplishments in Canadian mining. Ten of the citations will be made posthumously.

William James, Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Falconbridge Ltd. will be the keynote speaker.

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame will consist, for the present, of a display unit of portraits of persons inducted with citations recalling their exceptional contributions to Canada’s mining industry. The display unit will be available for showing at mining events in Canada staged by various organizations.
