Recently winding up its 1988 exploration program at its Cape Ray gold project in southwestern Newfoundland because of climatic conditions was Dolphin Explorations (TSE).
About 56,700 ft of core samples were drilled from 86 holes. Dolphin, whose major shareholder is Corona Corp. (TSE), had four drills in operation, three testing the 51 zone and one at the 04 zone. Among the better results: zone Width Grade Hole (ft)(oz/t) 299 (A vein) 1.30.97 299 (B vein) 3 0.34 302 (A vein) 7 0.2 51 zone (A vein) 285 6 0.96 289 1.51.47 293 1.58.75 295 3 1.34 310 3 0.8 315 7.51.05
The company reports that elsewhere on the property a mineralized boulder train in the Gulch area, about one-half mile northeast of the 04 zone, has been investigated by till and soil geochemistry and three drill holes. The boulder train consists of about 25 large angular quartz rich rocks with associated sulphides. The company says assays of the boulders run as high as 1.29 oz.
Boulder sampling on the recently acquired Northquest Land Corp. ground returned assays of up to 0.25 oz.
Progress on the 12-mile access road to the property is about one- third complete; the road is scheduled to be opened in late May.
